On January 20, 2025, the Senate passed the Laken Riley Act (S. 5) by a 64-35 vote. Sen. Marshall voted yes. The bill, the first signed into law in the second Trump administration, requires ICE detention of unauthorized immigrants charged with theft, burglary, assault on a law enforcement officer, or any offense causing death or serious injury. President Trump signed it on January 29, 2025.
