Questions — answered.
What's the registration deadline?
October 13, 2026 — twenty-one days before the November 3 general election. Register online, by mail, or in person at any county clerk's office.
Do I need a photo ID to vote?
Yes. Kansas requires a valid government-issued photo ID. Acceptable forms include a driver's license or non-driver ID issued by Kansas or another state, a U.S. passport, a U.S. military ID, a concealed-carry license, a government employee ID, a public-assistance ID, a Native American tribal ID, or a photo ID issued by any accredited Kansas postsecondary institution. Voters 65 and older may use an expired photo ID. See the full list at sos.ks.gov.
When can I vote early?
Advance in-person voting begins October 14 and must be available in every county by October 27; it ends November 2, 2026. Hours and locations vary by county — check with your county clerk.
How do I request an advance mail ballot?
Submit a written application to your county election office no later than October 27, 2026 (the Tuesday before the election). Your completed ballot must be received by your county election office by 7 p.m. on Election Day — under Kansas's 2025 law, postmarks no longer count, so mail it early or use a county drop box.
I just moved. What do I need to update?
If you moved within Kansas, update your registration by the same October 13 deadline. Update online at sos.ks.gov.
I just turned 18. How do I register?
Register online at sos.ks.gov or in person at any county clerk's office. The form asks for your Kansas driver's license or non-driver ID number; if you don't have one, enter the last four digits of your Social Security number, or write 'none.'
