HALT Fentanyl Act signed into law — permanent Schedule I

President Trump signed the HALT Fentanyl Act (S. 331) into law on July 16, 2025 as Public Law 119-26. The bill, sponsored by Sen. Cassidy (R-LA) with Doc among the cosponsors, permanently classifies fentanyl-related substances as Schedule I controlled substances. Permanent scheduling closes a loophole that previously required temporary administrative renewals.
